GREECE AGAIN
« on: July 30, 2010, 14:34:31 »

The UN High Commissioner for refugees has requested all EU states to stop transferring asylum seekers back to Greece, on the grounds that Greece does not operate a fair asylum system.
5 asylum seekers, variously from Afghanistan, Iran, and Algeria, were issued with transfer orders by an Irish court under the Dublin11 regulation--an EU law that stipulates that asylum applications are decided in the state where the person first arrives.

The 5 asylum seekers agree that they entered the EU via Greece, but have appealed to the European Court of Justice against their transfer, on the grounds that their Human Rights would be violated if they were returned to Greece, because that country does not have a fair asylum system. (you have to ask yourself how these people know this).

If the ECJ upholds their appeal, and since the UN is involved it is more than likely, it follows that  the Dublin11 regulation will be overturned, and member states will be powerless to return asylum seekers to their point of entry to the EU.
One can just hear Brussels then screaming out for a common EU asylum policy, something they have been after for a long time.
So Greece became the reason they want Economic Governance, and Greece could become the reason they achieve the common asylum policy.

Another step along the road to their beloved conformity.

I agree with you that these 'asylum seekers' know the law better than the average Brit, I've often wondered how they were also so knowledgeable about our benefit system?

When I used to think of asylum seekers I had in mind destitute families huddled together near to starvation, I soon changed my mind watching the crowds of fit young men dressed in fashionable jeans and trainers waiting at congregation points on the French coast all waiting to invade our benefit offices and demanding payments.

I have often wondered, in a very cynical way, Why 'asylum seekers' cross through countries, that would take them, yet choose to go miles further to come here.  Surely if your in fear for your life, anywhere is better than what you are leaving behind.

Have'nt you ever heard of lawyers with an open ended cheque book guaranteed by the human rights commission?
